The flowers sit along a long, upright spike. The lowest buds usually open first.
Make the most of your vase
Let gladioli set the height and sit heavier flowers a little lower. Each pack has a set number of stems, while the number of open flowers varies.
When they arrive
Give the bases a fresh cut and leave the tips intact. Remove spent flowers from the bottom as the buds above open. Keep the stems upright while arranging.

Choose a tall, fairly narrow vase with a heavy base to support the stems.
